Terence Crawford and Shawn Porter wanted both.

 

In the end, WBO world champion Crawford floored Porter twice to regain his world title with a 10th round stoppage at Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV. Saturday night.

 

Time was 1:21 seconds.

 

Porter wasted no time throwing some punches in the opening seconds of the bout. Crawford (38-0, 28 KOs) was ready. Porter, the shorter fighter by a couple of inches, bobbed and changed angles. He flipped out some jabs. Crawford observed and analyzed.

 

Crawford switched from orthodox to the southpaw in the second round. He jabbed and caught Porter (31-4-1, 17 KOs) with a check hook. Porter was busier and fought back well.

 

Porter likely banked the first two rounds. In round three, he moved to his left. Crawford, still fighting in the southpaw stance, appeared to be warming up. Porter was bleeding from a cut over his right eye due to an accidental headbutt.

 

Ignoring the blood, Porter scored with a quick left in round four. Crawford worked downstairs. A right from Porter landed. Crawford connected with a short left.

 

Defending champion Crawford came out throwing right jabs round five. Porter timed Crawford perfectly, scoring with a blow. Crawford went back to the body. Porter fired shots that scored. He connected with an uppercut. He was outworking Crawford. Crawford came out winging punches in round six. A few landed. He landed thudding shots to the head and body. Porter worked inside. Crawford was bleeding from a slight cut over his left eye courtesy of another head butt.

 

In round seven, Porter landed an overhand right to the chin. Crawford, moving, connected with a left hook to the onrushing Porter. Crawford jabbed and went to the body at the bell. The shot was solid and had to hurt.

Crawford opened up round eight by catching Porter with a combination. Porter fought back - landing two lead right hands. Both boxers scored with body shots.

 

Crawford fired a wicked left in round nine. He tagged Porter with a double jab. Porter, still bobbing slightly, fired back. Crawford snuck in a sneaky shot to the chin. He clipped Porter with an uppercut to win the stanza.

 

Suddenly in round 10, Crawford floored Porter with another uppercut. Porter got up quickly. He looked ok, but another combination from Crawford, featuring a brutal right hand, crumbled him. Porter got up again, but father Kenny stepped up on the ring apron and told the referee the fight was over.

 

“Shawn Porter, I can’t say anything bad about him,” said Crawford. “I was just the better man tonight.”

 

“He’s (Crawford) a dynamite dude,” said Porter.
