Moses Itauma could be about to announce his next opponent for a fight later in the summer.
Itauma is one of the most exciting new names in the heavyweight division. The Brit is just 21 and for a while had his eyes on becoming the youngest ever heavyweight world champion as he tried to pick up a belt before turning 20 to beat the long-standing record of Mike Tyson.
That never happened but he has still made solid inroads into the division with a strong string of impressive wins, including stopping former world title challenger Dillian Whyte inside a round and being the first man to stop tough American Jermaine Franklin when he did so in five rounds last time out.
Although he had been linked with a fight with WBA regular champion Murat Gassiev, the Russian will now defend his title against Tony Yoka in Moscow on July 11.
Now, according to a new post on X by the Inside The Ring Show, Itauma’s next bout appears to be on the brink of getting finalised.
“Moses Itauma and Filip Hrgovic are in advanced discussions for a heavyweight clash in late August in London, sources told The Ring’s @MikeCoppinger.”
Hrgovic would make another step up for Itauma. He has lost just once in his career, and that was by stoppage to Daniel Dubois back in 2023, though he has since claimed he had various issues going into the contest.
Last time out, he knocked out Dave Allen inside the first three rounds and has also beaten both David Adeleye and Joe Joyce via unanimous decision, so it would present a tough night’s work for Itauma.
