Before the Zolani Tete vs John Riel Casimero weigh-in can begin, MP Promotions President Sean Gibbons faced an obstacle
The Zolani Tete vs John Riel Casimero world title fight weigh-in was eventful, in spite of the boxers showing nothing but respect for the other.
Their mouthwatering duel, for Tete’s WBO bantam belt, tops a big Frank Warren bill in Birmingham on Saturday night, but the drama began even before either fighter took to the scales.
Sean Gibbons, President of Manny Pacquiao Promotions, who handle Filipino former two-weight king Casimero, was initially prevented from ascending to the stage with his fighter. While the stairs prevent the altercation being viewed, you can clearly hear Gibbons’ colourful protests. While discretion prevents me from revealing which member of Warren’s team apparently put a hand on Gibbons, the American’s concluding retort of "You don’t get treated like that in the Philippines," was most amusing.
