“I intended it to be one-sidedly victorious like this. I did it.”
Naoya Inoue
Explosive IBF and WBA bantamweight champion Naoya Inoue was on a destructive mission Tuesday at Saitama Super Arena in Japan.
“The Monster” blew out future Hall of Famer Nonito Donaire in round two at Saitama Super Arena in Japan Tuesday.
Time was 1:24 seconds.
In the opening stanza, Donaire, looking fit and ready, fired the first punch. Inoue, as sharp and dangerous as a stiletto, countered with a left hook. He jabbed and also landed a hard right. Seconds later a sharp right to the temple put Donaire on the seat of his pants. He got up with a puzzled look on his face.
Donaire clipped Inoue with his vaunted left hook in round two. Inoue (23-0, 20 KOs) absorbed it and fought back with heavy blows. Another left hook wobbled Donaire (42-7, 28 KOs) badly. Inoue went right back to work – unleashing a vicious combination that dropped Donaire on his back.
The tree-division champion got up but was in no condition to continue.
Time 1:24 seconds.
“Thank you so much everyone, I did it,” said Inoue now the holder of the WBC bantamweight belt. “In the first round, that left hook from Nonito woke me up.”
I guess.
The destructive nature of Inoue’s performance was very impressive. No excuses from Donaire. The better man won.
