Tepora Ko's Komanisi In 2

By Lwazi Ndzobongo: Jhack Tepora won the vacant WBO International Featherweight via second round stoppage of Lusanda Komanisi here at the Orient Theatre in East London, South Africa on Friday night.

The referee reached the count of ten at one minute and fifty nine seconds of the second round to see the unbeaten Tepora claiming the title.

The first round was fought at a pedestrian pace with neither fighter taking charge of the bout. In the second, both boxers came out with intent and were throwing heavy punches in the middle of the ring. Tepora caught Komanisi with a straight left that seemed to wobble him but he through wind to caution and continued to engage the heavy hitting Phillipino. Moments later Tepora caught the South African with a right hook that sent him flying onto the canvass. The badly hurt Komanisi tried in vain to get up as the local crowd watched in silence as their hero fell back onto the seat of his bum with the referee waving the fight to its end.

Tepora improves to 21-0 (16) and with his power he will be a tough competitor for most fighters, Komanisi drops to 21-4 (15).

Yanga Sigqibo wrestled the South African Junior Bantamweight title from the hands of Lindile Tshemene in a lackluster 12 round unanimous decision. The judges scored the fight, 116-113, 115-113 and 116-114, scores that suugest a much closer fight than what unveiled earlier this evening.

Sigqibo used his height and reach advantages over his shorter opponent, boxing his way to the decision in a fight that had little in terms of excitement. Only in the 12th round when only a knockout would get Tshemese to keep his title did he pressure Sigqibo and increase the pace of the fight but it was a case of too little too late.

Sigqibo, the new champion improves to 10-0-1 and Lindile Tshemese drops to 11-2-2.
