Recently crowned world champion Dalton Smith has revealed who he would like to fight next.
Sheffield-born Smith has held the WBC super-lightweight strap since January 2026, when he headed out to New York and beat Subriel Matias by TKO inside five rounds.
It was a coming-of-age fight for the Brit who has long been working his way to the top with wins over the likes of Sam Maxwell and Jose Zepeda, and now, at 29-years-old and with a perfect record of 19 wins from 19 fights, he wants the biggest fights possible.
Speaking to Ring Magazine, Smith admitted Shakur Stevenson is top of his radar.
“Of course. That’s a rewind of Hatton Mayweather, a rewind of them days. We do it at Hillsborough, a big night in Vegas, they’re the big fights to be made.”
He was then asked if he believed Stevenson would stay around long enough at the weight for the two to meet.
“I’d like to think so. I probably see him sticking at 140, he beat Teo [Lopez] who was the main guy for me so I see no reason why he won’t start at 140lbs.”
Stevenson has won world titles in four divisions, from featherweight up to junior welterweight, where he won the WBO title last year after defeating Teofimo Lopez with a unanimous decision win.
He has also been called out by Conor Benn but claimed after Benn’s win over Regis Prograis that the Brit would not last the distance with him, despite the fact he is generally regarded more as a technician and has knocked out less than half of his 25 opponents so far.
