Gervonta Davis Warned He’ll Be KOd For The First Time As Negotiations For Mandatory Fight Begin

Gervonta Davis has been warned that he will suffer the first stoppage defeat of his career should he face an unbeaten contender next.

The 31-year-old from Baltimore is yet to make a return to action since he fought to a controversial majority draw against countryman Lamont Roach Jr in March of last year.

‘Tank’ took a knee to the canvas after he was caught with a Roach jab in the ninth round but referee Steve Willis failed to rule a knockdown, effectively squandering Roach’s chances of becoming the first man to defeat Davis.

As Davis prepares to make his long-awaited comeback, the American star is being lined up to face the unbeaten Floyd Schofield Jr next, who is mandatory challenger to the WBA world lightweight title.

In a report made by Boxing Scene, talks for a showdown between Davis and Schofield have begun with a deal likely to be struck in the coming weeks.

Prior to this news breaking, Schofield’s father and trainer, Floyd Sr, spoke to Mill City Boxing and backed his son to become the first fighter to stop Davis, a feat that 31 other opponents have failed to achieve.

“That would have been a good fight but Kid would have stopped Tank, easy. I’ve been saying this for years. I don’t know why people acting like I’m changing up. And y’all can feel how y’all going to feel, I know my product, they know my product.”

Schofield produced the best win of his career last June when he stopped former IBF world super-featherweight champion Tevin Farmer in the opening round of their clash at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.

The WBA ordered ‘Kid Austin’ to face Davis for the world lightweight title in a circular that was released last month, as the highly-rated 23-year-old looks to finally capture world honours and cement his status as one of the best fighters in the 135lb division.
