Carl Froch Delivers Honest Verdict On Anthony Joshua’s Comeback Opponent Kristian Prenga

Carl Froch has not held back with his prediction for what will happen when Anthony Joshua gets back to heavyweight action against Albanian Kristian Prenga.

Joshua fought only once in 2025, and that was an easy night’s work against the out-of-his-depth American Jake Paul, whom he stopped inside six rounds.

Before that, he lost by KO in September 2024 to Daniel Dubois in an IBF world title fight, so he needs to get some ring rust off before he takes on Tyson Fury later this year.

Speaking on his own YouTube channel, ‘The Cobra’ assessed Joshua’s choice of return opponent.

“Let’s be honest, he’s a doorman-like fighter. He’s not a proper professional fighter. People have said binman, I don’t want to give any profession stick, because there is no need for it. But we’re taking professional boxing. This guy is a journeyman.

“He lost to a journeyman; he avenged the loss. I had a look at the way he stands, the way he throws punches, the shape of him. He’s a big guy, 6ft 5, it’s a gimme fight isn’t it. He’s a journeyman, ease yourself back in fight isn’t it.

“He’s had a right touch, he’s gunna get paid well as well. You could argue he needs a tune-up. Tyson Fury just had a tune-up against Makmuhdov, went 12 rounds so he’s confident, happy, he’s had a big lump in front of him.

He then predicted what would happen on fight night when Joshua faces Prenga.

“‘AJ’s going to go in there and absolutely splatter him. Well, he should do, if he doesn’t, there’s a problem. ‘AJ’ will go in there and do what he does, nice tidy box behind his jab, one two, we see what he did against Ngannou, absolutely flattened him.

“We do need to see how he is since the Daniel Dubois knockout loss because the Jake Paul fight in Miami didn’t tell us anything. It was like an easy sparring session, so it will be nice to see him in there with someone big and heavy who’s having a go. ‘AJ’ should iron him out nice and easy.”

Fury himself got back to winning ways in April after more than a year in retirement following back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk, though he may also have one more fight before the showdown with Joshua in the final part of this year.
