Shakur Stevenson has spoken about a fellow fighter he believes to be on his level as the very best in the sport right now.
The American is a highly skilled and technical fighter who has won world championships in four weight classes, from featherweight to junior welterweight.
Last time out in January, he dominated Teofimo Lopez to claim the WBO junior welterweight crown, and that made him the third-youngest four-division champion in boxing history.
It was another sublime show of his skills on top of previous wins over the likes of William Zepeda, Óscar Valdez and Jamel Herring. Although he has just 11 knockout wins from 25 fights, he is widely regarded as one of the sport’s pound-for-pound best.
Speaking to Chris Mannix, Stevenson – who has been called out by Conor Benn in recent months – was asked for his views on collecting all the belts and becoming undisputed, and what he said revealed who he thinks is on a par with him as the best in boxing.
“I don’t care about it any more. My legacy is the best fighting the best. If I go fight against ‘Tank’, nobody cares if it’s for undisputed or not, they just care that is the best versus the best, it’s the fight they been wanting to see for years.”
A fight between Stevenson and Gervonta ‘Tank’ Davis has long been one that has enthralled fight fans. Davis is a multi-weight champion who retained his WBA lightweight title in March 2025 but has been inactive since.
He has spoken of his desire to return to the ring and has been linked with the likes of Devin Haney, Isaac Cruz and Floyd Schofield, but as of yet there is no concrete news on his comeback.
